Stress: Meditate And Get Hypnotized
The top two names in the world of stress management are meditation and hypnosis. There is no doubt, however, that meditation is more popular than hypnosis. This is ironic in a way, since meditation is originally a non-relaxation technique as opposed to hypnosis which was designed with stress management in one of its agendas. Meditation focuses on relaxation, while hypnosis brings out the subconscious mind and seeks to reprogram it. As a result, people find hypnosis a little too spooky – especially those who have watched horror films one too many.
Nevertheless, experts of both fields agree that in stress, meditation and hypnosis can work together. They share similar elements, such as sitting down comfortably and getting relaxed before the session and getting relaxed even more during the whole session. Also, they share the “trance” element -even if they define it in different ways. Upon reaching that trance in meditation, a feeling of inner peace is achieved. With hypnosis, the trance simply relaxes the muscles because the focus is intensified on one object or idea.
Meditation, especially for beginners, uses a little imagination to get to that peaceful state. A mentor may walk a beginner through an imaginary peaceful place to feel relaxed. For hypnosis, they come in the form of words, and are pretty straightforward. The trick in hypnosis is your increased openness to suggestions, which makes it easier to bring one loser to their goals using affirmations. Affirmations are sentences that inspire and motivate. With that said, it’s not only relaxation that hypnosis brings, your whole outlook on life is changed – making it particularly effective against stress.
This changed outlook on life makes hypnosis very powerful against stress. How, you ask? Well hypnosis can reprogram your subconscious so you don’t react to situations you found stressful in a negative way. When you do not react to these stressors, your fight or flight response is not activated. While this makes hypnosis a more favourable technique against stress, it may not work for a lot of people. There are still people who will fear how hypnosis works and will opt for meditation. Plus the fact that it is like choosing between science and religion.
Choose one. When it comes to stress, meditation, hypnosis, and other relaxation techniques will be effective in relieving stress. Utilize other relaxation practices besides these two and you’ll speed up the stress banishment process. Remember to pick one that suits your personality. Are you spiritual? Go for meditation. Are you into the supernatural? Go with hypnosis. Well, hypnosis isn’t really unnatural, but you get my drift.
